Backlinks and Indexing

Time to watch today’s videos: Approximately 21 minutes.

Additional time to complete today’s action steps: The getting of backlinks is something you’ll want to add to your daily routine. Once you make it a habit, you’ll probably only spend 10-20 minutes a day at it. Initially, you may want to spend some time getting familiar with Google Groups and other related forums and pages that will let you add comments with a link back to your site. I’d say today you may spend about an hour or so exploring the communities related to your niche.

While it may be tempting to just start posting links – make sure you’re doing it in a way that contributes to the community. If you just start throwing up spammy links, you won’t be welcome for very long.

Checking to see if your site is ranked in Google should only take a minute or two.

Thirty Day Challenge Transcripts and Training are available below each video.

How To Get More Backlinks

2008TDC09_Your_Neighbors

Google Groups – Click here to find groups that relate to your niche.

Do a search for forums related to your niche.

Find relevant Squidoo lenses where you can leave comments with your keyword as the anchor text – by searching for “your keyword/phrase site:squidoo.com” That will narrow your search to pages on Squidoo.

I wonder if that might work on other platforms we’ll be looking at…

Make sure your comments are contributing to the conversation. Before you submit your comment, read it to yourself in the context of the page and other comments. Ask yourself if your comment is adding value to the page.

If your weren’t you and you were reading the comments – would you read your comment and say “good point” or would you say “so what.” If you’d say “so what” there isn’t much chance anyone would be inclined to click your link.

Participate 5-10 minutes per day – make it part of your daily routine. If you add 1-2 links per day this way, you could have an additional 20-40 backlinks by the end of the thirty day challenge. Based on our research with Market Samurai – that many backlinks can make a big difference in your organic search engine rankings.

And make sure you’re comments add value.

Social Bookmarking

Time to watch today’s videos: Approximately 17 minutes.

Additional time to complete today’s action steps: If you have never created any social bookmarking accounts – or want to create new ones, this could take 1-2 hours. Most of that time would be in account creation. Bookmarking your posts, once you’re all set-up with Social Marker usually takes 15-20 minutes…

Bookmarking Your Blog With SocialMarker

2008TDC08_Socialmarker_T1

Learn effective ways to use Social Marker and get to know some of the social bookmarking sites.
Then submit your blog post to various bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us, Twitter and StumbleUpon. There are many others – but it’s a good idea to make sure that the content you want to bookmark fits some of the other sites.

For instance, Digg is really geared toward news and technology posts. A post about crochet, may not go over very well there. 🙂

Social Marker – Click here to start using Social Marker.

Go ahead and add the Social Marker button to your toolbar in Flock/Firefox. It will speed up the process by importing some of the web page details for you.

You may notice the handy little buttons below – they are there to make it easy for you to socially bookmark THESE posts. It’s something that you should get used to doing, not just to your own content – but also to other content and posts that you find helpful and/or interesting. Go ahead – give it a try when you’re ready. At some point, I’ll do a quick post to explain how I added those to this wordpress blog…

Getting Some Content

Time to watch today’s videos: Approximately 30 minutes

Additional time to complete today’s action steps: Better plan on an additional 1-3 hours, at least. This is another lesson I had to split up over a couple of days. Research and writing takes me a bit of time. I suppose once I get used to it, it will go faster.

Find Article Content Using Market Samurai

2008TDC05_Finding_Content

Time to do some research for your niche. Find articles and blog posts focusing on your keyword. Use sites like Ezinearticles.com, goarticles.com, Google blog search and their news search. Review and analyze those articles for their “wow” facts. You can use Google Notebook to organize your research.

(Google notebook may no longer be available as I add this note on 06/19/2009 – you can use your own word processor or an online service like “evernote.” Feel free to leave other ideas as comments…)

Gather enough material to write several 300 to 500 word articles for your niche. You’ll need 5 to 10 articles to use throughout the thirty day challenge.

Another source for article content is Google Reader – you can set up Google Alerts and feeds focused on your niche keywords/phrases. This is discussed in other lessons – you can search within this blog for related posts on that topic.

Here are some links to a few article sources – and their usage terms:

Additional time to complete today’s action steps: Better plan on an additional 1-3 hours, at least. creating affiliate links and manipulating images with Piknic probably won’t take too long. SEO For Firefox

This is an alternative to using Market Samurai for your competition analysis. At the end of this lesson, you should have narrowed it down to a keyword that meets our traffic criteria and our competition factors.

Believe it or not – this is where most people get messed up. I fell in love with a niche once, not quite enough traffic – too much competition, and not much commercial intent. It was a lot of work for very little money. Save yourself the trouble – follow these research steps. If you do, you’re a lot less likely to end up doing a bunch of work for nothing 🙂

Introduction To Market And Keyword Research

Using Market Samurai For Keyword Research

Market Samurai Support – Click here for Market Samurai Support.

Pay attention to these videos and learn to use this tool correctly the first time. Save yourself the trouble of getting temporarily banned from Google…

Oh, and don’t use the keyword presented in the video – use your OWN keyword for your research.

The main criteria we’re after at this point:

SEOT – (SEO Traffic) is more than 80 searches a day
SEOC – (SEO Competition) is less than 30,000 competing pages

Other important factors to consider:

Adwords click-thru-rate (CTR) is more than 2.00% (it is a keyword buyers use for searches). This can help us prioritize keywords.
Also – check the keyword’s OCI percentage. A higher percentage means it is more likely that the keyword is a keyword buyers use. OCI is also used to prioritize your keywords.
